CTET 2018 Summary
Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi conducts Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) as per the guidelines laid down by The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. CTET exam is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) twice in a year. However, as per media reports, the teacher eligibility test will now be conducted only once a year.
There are two CTET test papers in the exam, that is, Paper-I and Paper-II. Candidates who want to teach Classes I-V need to give Paper-I whereas Paper-II needs to be given by aspirants who want to be eligible to teach Classes VI to VIII. The CTET 2017 exam pattern is such that aspirants need to attempt multiple choice questions.
Candidates are informed that in order to be eligible to be appointed as a teacher for Class I to VIII, aspirants need to pass Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) that is conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with Guidelines as framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). “As per NCTE notification No. 76-4/2010/NCTE/Acad Dated 11.02.2011: A person who scores 60% or more in the TET exam will be considered as TET pass”, informs the official website.

CTET 2018 Eligibility
CTET 2018 eligibility criteria depends on the class/standard for which aspirants are applying for.
Minimum CTET Qualifications for Primary Stage Teacher
Candidates need to meet the below mentioned eligibility criteria for CTET exam if they want to become a teacher for Class I-V.
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 45% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
OR
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd).
OR
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.
OR
- Graduated and passed/appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
Minimum CTET Qualifications for Elementary Stage Teacher
Candidates need to meet the below mentioned eligibility criteria for CTET exam if they want to become a teacher for Class VI-VIII.
- Completed Graduation and passed/appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
OR
- Completed Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (BEd) programme.
OR
- Completed Graduation with minimum 45% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (BEd), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.
OR
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (BElEd).
OR
- Completed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4- year BA/BSc.Ed or BA.Ed/BSc.Ed.
OR
- Completed Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.
Note:
- Candidates belonging to reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled) will be given relaxation of up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for CTET eligibility.
- Diploma/Degree Course in Teacher Education: For the purpose of this Notification, a Diploma/Degree course in teacher education recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will only be considered. However, in case of Diploma in Education (Special Education) and BED (Special Education), a course recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only shall be considered.
- Training to be undergone: A person with DEd (Special Education) or qualification shall undergo, after appointment, an NCTE recognised 6-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
- The minimum CTET qualifications referred above apply to teachers of Languages, Mathematics, Social Studies/Social Science, Science etc. The minimum qualification norms for Physical Education teachers referred to in NCTE Regulation, dated November 3, 2001 (as amended from time to time) shall be applicable. For teachers of Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc. the existing eligibility norms prescribed by the State Governments and other school managements shall be applicable till such time the NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications in respect of such teachers.
CTET 2018 Process
Step 1: Fill CTET Application FormAspirants need to fill their CTET 2018 application form by downloading the same from the official website.In CTET application form, aspirants need to fill their details such as Father’s Name, Mother’s Name and Date of Birth as per Class Xth Certificate. After filling all these details aspirants need to upload their scanned photograph and signature in JPG format on the online portal.Once the candidate fills his/her CTET 2018 application form it is required that they pay the application fee. CTET application fee can be paid by either of the two means mentioned below:- Through E-Challan: This can be done by depositing the application fee in the CTET Exam Fee Account with Syndicate Bank or Canara Bank.
- By Debit/Credit Card: This can be done online itself.

Candidates can download their CTET 2018 admit card from the official website of the exam. The admit card for CTET exam contains details of the aspirant. It also mentions the candidate’s test centre details as well as reporting time for the exam, along with other instructions related to giving CTET.Step 3: Give CTET Exam
Aspirants need to report at their CTET exam centre atleast 90 minutes before the commencement of the exam. CTET exam is of two and a half hour duration. On the exam day two papers will be conducted. Paper-I needs to be given by aspirants who want to qualify to teach Classes I-V (Primary Wing) and Paper-II is to qualify for Class VI-VIII (Elementary Wing).Step 4: Check CTET Result
CBSE will announce CTET 2018 result on the official website of the exam. Candidates who qualify the exam will get a CTET certificate.The official website informs: “The Validity Period of CTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be seven years from the date of declaration of its result for all categories”. Further, it is shared that, “There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a CTET Certificate. A person who has qualified CTET may also appear again for improving his/her score”.CTET 2018 Exam Centers
Candidates need to mention three CTET test centres in their application form. “Under no circumstances, the Centre once allotted shall be changed by the Board. In case the number of candidates in any of the notified City is very less for running the Examination Centre, the Board at its discretion may not conduct the Examination in that City and the Candidate who opted that city as 1st Choice may be allotted Examination Centre in other city opted as 2nd or 3rd choice”, informs the official website.CTET 2018 test centres have not been declared yet. CTET exam pattern is such that aspirants need to attempt 150 multiple choice questions in two and a half hours duration.Informing about CTET Paper-I pattern, the official website informs: “The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning”.
